# Vinay Chandrasekaran

Founder of Layerpath. Backed by a16z Speedrun. Based in San Francisco, originally from Chennai.

I make maps of complicated things. A life in check-ins, a state government, how products work.

> This is the Markdown version of https://v40.in/ for AI agents, search bots and anyone who prefers plain text. The HTML homepage draws these maps on a scrolling canvas: a world map, then San Francisco, then the rings of 28,849 check-ins, then Tamil Nadu. Everything it says is here. Every essay and note has a Markdown version too: add .md to its URL. A map of the whole site is at https://v40.in/llms.txt.

## Works

### 1. A company: Layerpath

Helping teams explain what to do, how things work, and what changed. So the content companies create to explain their product stays right, stays current, and actually gets understood.

Vinay is the founder. Layerpath is backed by a16z Speedrun. https://layerpath.com

### 2. A life: A Life in Places

Every Swarm check-in Vinay has made since 2010, as the rings of a tree: one dot for every check-in, one ring for every year. 28,849 check-ins in 32 countries, 2010 to 2026. The public film shows monthly counts by country only. Film: https://v40.in/places

### 3. A government: Tamil Nadu Desk

An independent, sourced map of Tamil Nadu's government after the 2026 election: the 234-seat assembly, the ministers, and the officer behind every post. Seats as of 10 September 2026: TVK 107, DMK 59, AIADMK 41, others 20, vacant 7 (234 in all). https://tn.v40.in

### 4. The Madras Project

An ongoing exploration of Chennai. Curiosity about my hometown became a game, a kolam film and a world I’m still building.

- [Play Madras Rush: Madras Rush](https://madras.v40.in/rush/) (Browser game): Jump through 386 years, or take a slower ride in Explore mode. Free on desktop and phone.
- [Watch the film: Chennai, Redrawn](https://madras.v40.in/#film) (Kolam film · 24 seconds): The city’s neighbourhoods drawn together in code and sound.
- [Preview the world: Madras, around 1700](https://madras.v40.in/#world) (3D world · In progress): Three recorded views of the coast, fort and lanes. Six snapshots to look closer.

## Writing

- [Human as Middleware](https://v40.in/labs/human-as-middleware/) (Essay, Feb 2026): A FedEx door tag, 90 minutes hunting a truck in the Mission District, and the structural permission problem that neither better helpdesks nor smarter agents have touched. ([Markdown](https://v40.in/labs/human-as-middleware.md))
- [The Second Interface](https://v40.in/labs/second-interface/) (Essay, Feb 2026): The web is quietly growing a layer it never had. WebMCP, Cloudflare, Parallel. Three architectures shipped in one week, pointing at the same thesis. ([Markdown](https://v40.in/labs/second-interface.md))
- [The Translation Tax](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/translation-tax-vinay-chandrasekaran-xihgc) (Newsletter, Feb 2026): Being “non-technical” meant renting the truth from intermediaries. AI tools closed that loop.
- [Forward-Deployed: The Rise of the Embedded Founder](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/forward-deployed-rise-embedded-founder-vinay-chandrasekaran-ptfvc) (Newsletter, Oct 2025): In SaaS, implementation was configuration. In AI, implementation is discovery.
