A developer I know has design taste. He skips Figma, ships directly in code. It works because he catches what looks wrong before it ships.
I tried the opposite. Design team with taste. Thought AI could shortcut their review loop. Handed it prompts and hoped.
Didn’t work. The output was fine by any objective measure. It just wasn’t good.
Either direction, code to design or AI to design, the constant is someone in the loop who knows what good looks like. That person can’t be automated. They’re not doing the work. They’re judging it.
The tool is the medium. Taste is the constraint.
